[Simon is wandering through the house looking for papa, since he is a bored little child and requires entertainment. Since it's the logical place to look, he pokes into Cloud's room, calling out. A few moments later there's a loud popping sound, like something exploding, and a childish scream, immediately followed by pounding feet and finally, the slam of a door and soft, hiccoughing sobs.

[Simon's head bobbed an affirmative.]

Uh-huh. It was really quiet so I wanted to see who was here.

Isn't Momma here?

I dunno, I haven't found her yet.

[Cloud bowed his head in thought before reaching over to ruffle Simon's hair.]

I'm sorry if you felt like I left you. I'd thought you would call me over the journals if you needed me...I guess I should've said that to you before I left, huh?

[Simon stiffened, flailing a bit, immediately distressed.]

No no no, Papa! That's not what I meant! You didn't leave me! I was just looking...!

[Chuckling, Cloud reached over to ruffle Simon's hair again.]

Calm down, it's fine. I understand, you were curious.

[Simon blushed and smiled, fidgeting and leaning against Cloud's side.]

Yeah... but I sorta found you!

Well...that was one way of doing it. Or giving me a heart attack.

[Cloud drags his hand through Simon's hair, smiling when he feels the weight settle against his side.]

[Simon pouted a little, brows furrowing.]

I didn't do it on purpose.

Hm? No, I'm-...that wasn't for you. I'm angry at someone else.

The person who put those things in my room in the first place.

Oh... yeah, I'd be mad at them too.

I'm sorry you ran across those, Simon. [Cloud rubs Simon's back again.] You okay now?

Uh-huh! They didn't hurt or anything, I just go scared... what was it?

Just...little explosives. They wouldn't have hurt anyone, but they were meant to scare people. I guess they worked.

...hey Simon. I found a piano that I'm getting for Momma. You wanna come check it out with me?

... Piano? What's that?

Oh. Right.

[Cloud slipped off the counter, reaching up and sliding his hands beneath Simon's arms to lift him down to the floor.]

A piano is an instrument to play music with. It's made out of wood, but it sounds really nice when someone really good plays it.

... M... music? Um...

[Simon thought hard for a moment, trying to picture it in his mind, but to no avail.]

Can you show me, Papa?

[Simon bounced a little on the spot, one hand reaching up for Cloud to take it.]

M'kay, let's go. [Cloud took Simon's hand in return, making sure to snatch up First Tsurugi and secure the buckles around his waist before leading Simon from the house towards the shop where he'd found the piano.]

Momma's pretty good, but she hasn't been able to play for a while. Maybe she'll remember some songs and let us listen while she practices.

What kind of sounds does it make, Papa? The only music I know is lots of 'boom-boom' stuff and the songs my mom used to sing...
