[Simon tromps into the kitchen and does see just that, lifting up his goggles and blinking at Cloud in confusion.]

Papa? What's the matter? Does your head hurt?

No, kiddo, my head's fine. [Cloud continues what he was doing, aka making sandwiches (very safe).]

[Simon wanders over to Cloud, peering up, one hand fisted in his pant leg.]

Um... can I have two? Please? I'm really hungry...

[This has to be addressed. Cloud sets the utensils aside and crouches in front of Simon, hands on his shoulders.]

Simon, I'm being very serious, so I want you to take what I'm saying to heart. You can have as much as you want, whenever you're hungry, understand me? And you can have something else, if you want something else, too; all you have to do is tell me.

[Simon blinked, surprise clear on his expression. He hadn't expected that, though Cloud had never neglected him or refused to give him anything he needed. It was just so strange to hear - the idea that there was no rationing, no being careful with supplies... it was such an alien concept that believing it was almost dizzying.]

A... as much as I want? But won't we run out? The chief always said we had to be careful and only eat so much every day...

[Cloud purses his lips for a second before smiling, a little strained, but hopefully Simon wouldn't catch onto that. He strokes the boy's hair reassuringly.]
