Does... does anyone know what I can do to help? I can dig holes and tunnels really quickly... maybe I could help with the barricades? I just... don't know what else...

[Simon is hanging around outside the house he and Kamina have shared for a while, looking rather pathetic, sitting in the dirt and sharpening his drill. The house is way too big and lonely for just one person, especially when he's used to living with someone as loud and outgoing as Kamina, so he doesn't really want to be inside right now.

He's been suitably freaked out since the sacrifice post and hasn't really talked to anyone about it, and with both Cloud and Kamina gone now and the entire village working away at protecting it from whatever's coming, he feels pretty lost in the flow of things. Bother? Console? Harass? W/E D| ]

[She's already turned to the door.] Sure thing! I'll help you pack up, we'll finish in no time at all!

[He looks a bit relieved. Even for a little bit, he doesn't really feel like being alone.] Y-you don't have to pack anything! It's just... um... you know. It's nice to have company...

Hm~? But between the two of us, we'll finish really quickly!

H-hiding? No, no! Of course not! [SHE JUST HAS NO BUSINESS SEEING HIS UNDERWEAR IS ALL.]

[SOB. Simon slinks along with her, leading her to his room. Hopefully he can get to what he needs before she does. D|]

[Well, since she doesn't really know where anything is, she'll hang around his door for a moment.]

It's so quiet here.

[Simon slumps a bit at that, grabbing a bag from somewhere and gathering up some clothes. It has been too quiet in the past few days.] Yeah... it's always quiet when aniki isn't here.

[She walks on over to help with the clothes, but also because she doesn't like the look on his face. Did we say something we shouldn't have?]

He'll be back, Simon. I bet the Malnosso'll think he's way too loud and annoying to keep him for very long.

[Naw, he's just easily depressed when he feels helpless. Also kidnapping Kamina is about the same as killing what little ego he has.]

I hope so. He's pretty loud, isn't he?

He's really noisy and loud and annoying! But I guess that makes him kind of fun, maybe. Sometimes?

So yeah, don't worry too much, Simon! He'll be okay.

You think he's annoying, huh...? [Maybe it was a girl thing? Yoko thought he was annoying, too. Sure, Kamina could be kind of stupid sometimes, but his bravado made him practically invincible sometimes.]

Well, he is! He's always shouting or something. And he's way too full of himself!

[WILT.] I... I guess.

But you like him a lot, don't you Simon? S-sorry. I'll stop.

Y... yeah. But it's okay, you can think whatever you want.

Mm. Maybe I need to get to know him more, once he gets back! Luke was really annoying at first, too, but now he's okay.

Yup. Hey, when things settle down here, you should really meet all my friends!

I wish I had more friends to introduce you too. I can't even keep my promise to bring Papa to the springs.

[A-aaw, Simon. She would move to give you another hug, but she knows by now that it'd be a touch too awkward.] That's okay, I don't know if I would've been able to drag the Colonel all the way up there, anyway. The springs will just have to stay our secret place, I guess!

[He fidgets at that, blushing immediately and feeling rather humbled. The ease in which she found reasons for him to feel better was incredible, as if it was Kamina helping him even though he was gone.]

It's no problem! And I don't know if I'm as good as you think... I mean, I just don't want to see you down like that, you know? So you've gotta keep your chin up, Simon!

That's enough for me. A lot more than enough. Nobody used to care except aniki... I'm glad I have a friend like you, now.

[And that, in turn, makes Anise blush. Just now, Simon reminded her so much of Ion - the same openness and sincerity, and the same simple appreciation for being a friend.]

Yeah, well, it's no good if you let yourself stay that way, so... I guess you can count on me to be there when you're down.
