...Ah... Miss Raine, or Genis... or anybody, really... I guess I will need help with reading again. I've been trying to practice, but I remember that braille stuff better than regular writing. It's really weird.

The writing here is different from the symbols Ron and Yoko showed me on our world, too. Is it the same for everyone else? Does your world have a special way of reading and writing, or a language? I just think it's funny how everyone can understand each other here...

I mean, it's good that we can, but... it's weird, right?

Math homework, huh? I didn't hear about that. But he's been forgetting a lot of little things, yes.

Mhm. We're...actually, maybe I should tell you in person. Where are you? [Because she'd like to reassure him that it's going to be fixed before telling him just how bad it is, but, y'know. That's not good to talk about on the journals.]

I'm in my room, but I can come meet you somewhere if you want.

[Two quick raps on the door, and Aerith is poking her head in.]

[Simon's sitting on the bed when she pokes in; he looks up from one of his braille books and smiles at her, setting it aside.]

You can come in.

[She comes in, settling herself on the side of the bed, and notes the books.]

The braille is pretty easy to understand, isn't it? I picked up a little before. [far, far from a speed reader, of course.]

Yeah... it's weird, though. I never even though about it before, but as soon as I picked the books up and started touching the letters, the words just come to me. But I can barely remember learning how to read it, so it's like I know for no reason.

I know you studied hard when you were here, so there is a reason.

...Have you heard about John?

[The sudden change of topic worries him.]

He's that creepy doctor, right? The one who made Zack sick.

[And the reminder of that worries Aerith, and she looks down at the bedspread.]

Yeah...he was trying to fix Zack's death penalty. And he did, even if...[She purses her lips.]

Cloud's death penalty needs to be fixed soon, Simon. It's getting out of hand.

His memory...? It really is bad, isn't it...

[She leans over and reaches out--thinking to hug him first, but he's older now so she reaches up and tousles his hair instead.]

He'll be all right once it's fixed. But...that's the problem right now. He doesn't remember me very well. [Or at all.]

[He blushes at the hair ruffling, but her words make his eyes widen.]

He forgot about you?! Will he forget about us, too?

No, no. [She says that hastily; that's why she wanted to tell him the problem was getting fixed before saying what the problem actually was.] His memory'll be mended soon--he won't forget anyone else. That's why it needs to be fixed as soon as possible.

Fixed... you mean going to that John guy, right? That's why you mentioned him?

Mhm. I don't know exactly when it'll be, but...soon. He'll be gone a few days, but it's necessary.

...So after that, he should be okay?

Mhm. He'll be fine.

That's good, then! He wouldn't be happy with forgetting about someone as nice as you.

[A little laugh. Thank you, Simon.] No, he'll probably be kicking himself when it's all said and done. That's why we're taking care of the problem before it gets any worse.

We'll have to make sure he never forgets again somehow!

I planted forget-me-nots for him in the garden...

What do you think would help him remember?

We could paint his room pink.

His reaction would definitely be a memorable one. Pink with floral decorations.
