[Possessed by the earth spirit, but to a lesser degree than most, Simon is... well, underground. He's back to digging his tunnels around the village, popping up in random locations throughout to create a bit of his own custom irrigation, ie. digging holes everywhere and generally making a big mess. But he seems so content as he does it, and he doesn't even notice the size of his wings.

Feel free to notice him causing chaos in your gardens, though he might be a little distracted \o]

...well in that case, what if I made the signs instead and you just kept on digging? You seem to be doing good with that.

Eight! [Oh-so proud. He just had his sort-of birthday.]

[and this is Shiki's brain trying to wrap around why they brought an eight-year-old here but playing along still] Wow. Did you just turn eight?

Uh-huh! I don't know if it was really my birthday, but it's been a whole year since I got here, so Papa and I agreed that it could be my birthday!

A whole year? That's a really long time, but at least you have family here.

Yeah, I like it here. My old home wasn't nice like this at all.

I hear that from a lot of people.

The experiments don't bother you at all?

Sometimes they do, but they always go away after a little while. We just have to tough it out for a few days and everything will be okay again!

...Simon has anybody ever told you you're a smart kid?

Sometimes, but I think they're being silly.

What? Why would you even think that?

Because I'm a little kid. Little kids can be smart, but when adults tell them they're smart, it's kind of silly, isn't it? Because adults are smarter than kids.

You'd be surprised. Some adults can be not-so-smart at times.

Yeah, my papa can be pretty dense sometimes.

[laughs] I'll be sure not to tell him that. [not that Shiki's met the REAL Cloud, but still!] Either way, sometimes you just gotta believe what people say, even if it does sound silly sometimes.

So why does toughing it out make me smart? Isn't it what everybody does?

Well yeah but a lot of people spend a lot of time complaining about it instead of just accepting this is part of what we have to do until we can figure out a way to leave. I guess not everybody's as accepting is what I'm getting at.

Huh... that's true, isn't it... so if people were more accepting, they'd be smart?

Probably. I think it'd make dealing with the experiments a lot easier at least.
