U-um... anybody who worried about me... I'm okay. So you shouldn't worry... especially not Papa...

Oh yeah! Goten, the... uh... New Feather, right? That's what people call them? He made me think-

Since we're all from different worlds, does that mean we're aliens? Though I'm still not really sure what an alien is.

Hm, well that's not very nice a him. Does he run off like that often? HE didn't leave ya alone, did he?

No no no! It's my fault! He... ran off because of me. He's just trying to help me... and he never leaves me alone. He's a good papa, I promise.

Hey, don't freak out on me, Simon. I'm just makin' sure you're taken care of. But don't start blamin' yourself for stuff your... papa gets up ta. So what'd he fun off ta do?

[chuckles] Good ta hear that 'cause a lotta people say I talk too much. Least I can shut myself up now when I need ta. That last experiment was a pain in the a- it was hard ta deal with. So what do ya do for fun, kid?

Mm... sorry. Just don't doubt Papa. He's the greatest person ever! He went to fight, though...

I don't think you talk too much. I mean, if you do, it's okay, because I don't know anything and I like hearing about what you say...

Um... I like to play. Mostly with Denzel and Papa, but sometimes other people come over, too. Oh, and I like it when people read to me... I can't read on my own, but Miss Raine was teaching me.

[chuckles] Ah, I get it. I'm glad ya like bein' with 'im or he might have another fight on his hands. [His voice is light and teasing as he says it.]

Now I don't believe that. Never met a kid who didn't know anythin'. I'm sure ya got stuff in that head a yours.

Well that sounds liek somethin' fun. What kinda things do ya like havin' 'em read to ya? Ya workin' hard ta learn on your own? How's se teachin' ya?

Why would you fight Papa? You're not bad people...

Um... I know some stuff about digging but hardly anyone cares about that kind of stuff. It was only important in Jiha.

I like anything! Real stories, make-believe... anything anybody will tell me!

I hope I'm not bad people. I'd just be angry with 'im if he wasn't takin' cara ya. That's all and since he is, I just want him ta bring ya by my place so I can make ya guys a pizza.

Well, that kinda stuff woulda been important on Mars. It's another planet we're tryin' ta mine for stuff. So see, ya got useful stuff in that head a yours.

[chuckles] Sounds like you're pretty easy ta please then. I might have ta come tell ya some stories then. Somethin' 'bout space so it's not like anythin' ya heard before.

Mars is a planet where people are digging, huh... wow. Mining is like looking for treasure, right?

I wanna hear stories! All kinds of stuff! Is it good to be 'easy to please'?

[chuckles] Well, better ta be funny and silly than serious and borin'.

Mars is... like another world. It's one a the stars we look up and see. Big red one. And yeah, it's kinda like that. We're lookin' for stuff we need which is like treasure.

[realizes that was probably not the best phrase to teach him] Well, makes it easier ta tell ya stories and make ya happy. Means I don't have ta work so hard comin' up with somethin' interestin' ta tell ya or work reall hard findin' a book ta read from in the library.

Uh-huh! That's why I like you!

A big red world? Why's it red? And what're you looking for?

Oh... okay. That's good, then.

Then I'm even more glad ta be this way!

'Cause the dirt's red. Not exactly sure what makes it red. Lotta rusted iron? Naw, that'd need oxygen ta rust. Maybe Quat knows. I should ask 'im. Metals and stuff. We need 'em ta build things.

Uh huh. So what kinda stories ya wanna hear from a space man? I could tell ya one now.

My daddy said dirt goes red when it's got iron oxide in it. Dunno what the 'oxide' is but you were sorta right?

If you have a story you have to tell it! You can't tease people with it, right?

's what I was just thinkin' by ya need oxygen for that ta happen and I don't think there's enough of it on Mars. Oh umm... oxygen's the stuff ya breathe ta live.

[chuckles] I could, but I think I'd have more fun tellin' ya. Question's which story ya wanna hear? I can make up a couple or try ta tell ya one from when I was a kid.

There's no air on Mars? So nobody lives there? That's no fun...

Um... tell me a real story! You said you had one, right?

No air in space, but we live there. It's a workin' base so it's not that comfortable, but we make our own air and when ya have ta go out beyond were we made air, ya wear these special suits that keep air in for ya ta breathe.

One? Sure I can come up with more than that. Let's see... somethin' that's not too scary... How 'bout the story of the greatest hero my world'll never know? [He launches into a very generic and less than detailed story about a mighty soldier who fought for the freedom and safety of the people in space. Even when he made a big mistake, he fought on in his metal machine and finally, in front of the entire Earth and colonies, saved the world from two falling ships. He spends time describing the courage of the solider and what the metal machine looks like along with the ships without detailing the fighting to political issues that were part of it. He doesn't talk about the other pilots and decides that the soldier's artic battle with another soldier is another story.]

...Wow...

That kind of sounds like a dream I had one time. It was a really cool story, Duo!

[chuckles] Glad ya liked it, but it was real and notta dream.

..... It was real?!

Ya said ya wanted a real one, didn't ya? Guess I coulda told ya somethin' more borin', but I know that one pretty good.

That's true... it's a good story, Duo! It's so cool it sounds make-believe, but I trust you, so...

Good 'cause I don't lie. I'm glad ya liked it, but now I'm gunna have a standard ta live up ta next time I tell ya a story.

Is that a bad thing? Stories don't have to be that good all the time, as long as you have fun telling them, right?

Just means it'll be harder for me ta be as entertainin', but if you're just happy hearin' stories, I could tell ya one from when I was younger. Not as interestin', but ya have ta promise not ta try it. I don't want your papa gettin' mad at me for givin' ya ideas.

Huh? Try what? Were you bad as a little kid?

[chuckles] They called me a demon among other things. I was a naughty kid, but I had my reasons. They're not the story though. So ya promise?
