Does... does anyone know what I can do to help? I can dig holes and tunnels really quickly... maybe I could help with the barricades? I just... don't know what else...

[Simon is hanging around outside the house he and Kamina have shared for a while, looking rather pathetic, sitting in the dirt and sharpening his drill. The house is way too big and lonely for just one person, especially when he's used to living with someone as loud and outgoing as Kamina, so he doesn't really want to be inside right now.

He's been suitably freaked out since the sacrifice post and hasn't really talked to anyone about it, and with both Cloud and Kamina gone now and the entire village working away at protecting it from whatever's coming, he feels pretty lost in the flow of things. Bother? Console? Harass? W/E D| ]

Oh, right! He's mentioned you. ...But he's not here right now.

[And that makes him grimace; he's been here long enough by this point to know that a kidnapping isn't good, and since it's happening now that'd be an even worse time. Probably especially for those left behind.]

That's rotten timing... but maybe he'll be back soon? I think a lot of those don't last really long, or do they? I'm pretty new here. Still learning the ropes.

That's the hardest part... you never know how long someone will be gone. I guess he's safer while he's with them, but... [That doesn't make it any easier.]

But they're still gone, you don't know what's happening to them, you don't know how they are, and you don't know when you'll find them again. That's never a good feeling.

Yeah, there's a lot going on. Have you talked to anyone in charge of anything? Said you'd help out anywhere? Or do you not know where to go?

Miss Raine told me to talk to Caesar, so... I guess I'll start there. [He just has no immediate incentive to do that yet.]

But what if aniki comes back and I'm not here? Someone should be home.

Um... the tunnel goes from my house to outside of yours, now. There's another that connects from yours to the shelter in the clearing, too.

I want to help. [It's... sort of an answer? But he's awkward with strangers.]

[He nods; that's okay.] Well, everyone could use some help now. We gotta keep everyone safe, right? If you want to do it, then you'll do good at it.

You think so? Just wanting it badly enough makes it possible?

Wh-what? He got sent home, now? Oh, Simon, that's-- I'm sorry.

[And you get a hug, Simon.]

[Any other time he might have been embarrassed, or blushing, or spluttering protests, but right now he just really needs it, so he'll accept the hug without question, arms lifting to return it. This is a scary time for kids, and he isn't ready for it.]

It helps, that's for certain. If you really want something, you work harder for it, and that makes you do better in the long run. You've noticed it, you've had to, when you know someone who's being forced to do something instead of wanting to do it and they don't do as good a job or they go a lot slower.

That means you've been all alone for a while now, haven't you? I'm sorry I couldn't have dropped by sooner, Simon! I had no idea... [She can tell that he needs it, so she'll just stay that way for now.]
